This module exposes students to the major questions of a sound global business strategy: What must be (versus what is) the extent of market presence in the world’s major markets? How to build the necessary global presence? What must be and (versus what is) the optimal locations around the world for the various value chain activities? How to run global presence into a global competitive advantage?

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To make students aware of the nature of international business in terms of culture, international trade and foreign investment worldwide
  2. To cover in detail, the various factors of the complex international business environment
  3. To provide students with in-depth knowledge on the required skills and competences in the international business arena
  4. To thoroughly discuss with the students, the strategic and operational task requirements for working in an international, multinational or global company
  5. To explore different competitive advantage opportunities for business development


Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:

  1. To critically compare the key concepts referring to international trade and globalization, as well as to critically compare international business knowledge and skills required to differentiate established Western economies and transition/developing countries
  2. To analyze the influence of macro- and organizational environment on organizational and individual international management behaviour
  3. To apply international communication skills and to explain the meaning of values as determinant factors in international business
  4. To prepare strategies and operations to reduce and overcome barriers that hinder effective international co-operation between companies
  5. To analyze cross-functional and supply chain perspectives
