Course/Module Description:

This course/module deals with human behavior health care organizations. It exposes students to approaches and processes that can help in effectively leading and managing others in health care organizations. This course is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of the history and development of Organizational Behavior (OB) theories and concepts applied in health care organizations.

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To develop an understanding of key Organizational Behaviour concepts and how are applicable in health care organizations
  2. To improve team skills and gain an appreciation of team dynamics in health care organizations
  3. To investigate sources of power and motivation, thereby setting a clearer path to earn the commitment of others in health care organizations
  4. To learn to navigate conflict and make better organizational decisions in health care organizations
  5. To commit to creating and being part of a better place to work via analysis and interpretation of organizational culture in health care organizations
  6. To enable positive change in organizations by understanding key factors in implementing change and uncovering the transitions people experience when faced with it in health care organizations.

Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able to:

  1. To analyze individual and group behaviour, and understand the implications of organizational behaviour on the process of management in health care organizations
  2. To identify different motivational theories and evaluate motivational strategies used in a variety of organizational settings in health care organizations
  3. To evaluate the appropriateness of various leadership styles and conflict management strategies used in organizations in health care organizations
  4. To describe and assess the basic design elements of organizational structure and evaluate their impact on employees in health care organizations
  5. To explain how organizational change and culture affect working relationships within organizations in health care organizations.
