Course/Module Description:

Each student will have to complete an internship during the third and final year of their studies. This experience will take place in a Health Care business environment and will complement the student’s classroom education. Work and internship experiences are required as they are regarded a major advantage and assure that the student is acquainted with actual Health Care industry work environments. These practical experiences supplement academic subject matter and serve to guide you in securing successful employment upon graduation. Once the internship is completed then the student is required to write a report of 5,000 words while elaborating: reflection in practice, learning and practical outcomes.

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To assist the student’s development of employer-valued skills such as teamwork, communications and attention to detail
  2. To expose the student to the environment and expectations of performance on the part of their position in professional Health Care practice
  3. To enhance and/or expand the student’s knowledge of a particular area(s) of the field of Health Care.
  4. To expose the student to professional role models or mentors who will provide the student with support in the early stages of the internship and provide an example of the behaviors expected in the intern’s workplace.

Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:

  1. To write a professional reflective report while reconcile the experiences in Health Care industry
  2. To integrate theory and practice in Health Care organization
  3. To appreciate work and its function in the economy
  4. To develop work habits and attitudes necessary for job success
  5. To develop communication, interpersonal and other critical skills in the job interview process
  6. To build a record of work experience in Health Care industry
  7. To acquire employment contacts leading directly to a full-time job following graduation from college
  8. To identify, write down, and carry out performance objectives related to their job assignment.
