Course/Module Description:

The aim of the Research Design, Data Collection and Analysis module is to help you to develop key research skills involved in the design of studies, collection of data, analysis of findings and presentation of results. Whilst you engage in these activities you will have the opportunity to work with an experienced research mentor, consult researchers on the practicalities of research design and process. The module builds on Level 1 modules “Doing Research 1: Literature Review” and “Evidence for Answers” drawing on the literature review skills and quantitative skills developed in those modules. The module will also interface closely with the Year 2 modules “Data Analysis in the context of Healthcare Management, Policy and Research” and “Qualitative Research: When numbers will not do!”

  1. To design, collect and analyse data using a range of research methodologies
  2. To understand the strengths and weaknesses of different methodological approaches
  3. To understand the ethical issues associated with different research designs
  4. To present your research using written and verbal approaches to a range of different audiences
  5. To undertake research projects, working both individually and as part of a group.
