This course/module examines how health care services are delivered, managed, particularly with respect to relationship between public and private providers.  

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To link leadership and management practices to structures, cultures and behaviors in the private and public sector healthcare organizations
  2. To provide a reflection on key aspects of healthcare organizations and their decision making processes in private and public sector healthcare organizations
  3. To discuss and critique current management and leadership theories in the context of complex professionalized healthcare organizations
  4. To explore the principles of effective management and leadership on decision making in private and public sector healthcare organizations.

 

Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:

  1. To know the different approaches that differentiate public versus private health care organizations
  2. Explore the application of health services management to public versus private health care organizations
  3. To understand the structure of health systems in public versus private health care organizations
  4. To understand the concept and dimensions of health system performance in public versus private health care organizations.
