Course Description:

Course/Module Description:

Statistics is a vital aspect of economics and during this course, students will be able to apply key techniques and principles to conduct research and analyze data resulting from research using advanced technology and software.

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To make students aware of the concept of measures of central tendency and variation
  2. To make students aware of elementary probability theory
  3. To cover in detail all aspects of the binomial and the normal random variables and distributions
  4. To thoroughly discuss estimation and hypothesis testing.

Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:

  1. To explain the meaning of statistical measures and compute measures of central tendency and variation from data
  2. To solve basic theoretical and empirical probability problems through the computation of confidence intervals and execution of hypothesis testing
  3. To demonstrate the basic concept of discrete and continuous random variables
  4. To compute Probabilities for the binomial distribution and for the normal distribution.
