This introductory course in Information Technology is designed to introduce students to the world of digital technology and expose them to systems and applications that will be of great use in their workplace and career in general.  

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To introduce students to the digital world by considering fundamental computer hardware and the most popular microcomputer applications
  2. To explain systems and applications software as well as introduce and practice file management, data storage and security principles
  3. To give students hands-on experience on popular application software packages, which may include word processing, electronic spreadsheets, database management, presentation graphics, statistical applications and other
  4. To explore the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW) using browser software for exploration and searching
  5. To introduce e-mail, newsgroups, multimedia, and other Internet services and resources.

Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:

  1. To understand computer hardware fundamentals, use computer terminology and practice file management principles
  2. To describe the differences between applications software and system software
  3. To use an electronic spreadsheet to solve relevant problems. Prepare graphs to present important facts. Also to use presentations graphics software to prepare attractive presentations
  4. To be able to access the World Wide Web using browser software to navigate, search, and explore the Web. Some exposure to e-mail, newsgroups, multimedia, and other Internet services and resources
  5. To study Computer-assisted and distance learning; the university’s InterLearning environment
