Cultural geography is a sub-field within human geography. Cultural geography is the study of cultural products and norms and their variations across and relations to spaces and places. It focuses on describing and analyzing the ways language, religion, economy, government and other cultural phenomena vary or remain constant, from one place to another and on explaining how humans function spatially.
The main objectives of the course are:
- To provide an understanding of geography and the distribution and spatially different activities of humans across the earth
- To discuss the variations of population growth and migration through typical and exceptional trends, the cultural differences and their spatial variations, economic activity patterns and their relation to the environment
- To discuss terms like space, place, position and links
- To explore geographic data and diversity.
Course/Module Learning Outcomes:
After completion of the course students are expected to be able:
- To explain the distribution of human activity
- To work with data and information within the methods of cultural geography to interpret maps and data
- To analyze the causes for spatial variation in population statistics and migration patterns
- To describe and account for cultural difference and distribution as well as understand the nature and role of intercultural communication
- To work with maps and visual presentation of geographic data and trends.
