This module exposes students to the concept of maximizing employee performance in service of an employer’s strategic objectives through different methods and tactics such as motivation, proper leadership, etc.  This course is primarily concerned with the management of people within organizations, focusing on policies and on systems, utilize effectively and efficiently resources, increase productivity and maintain good quality of working environment.

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To collect and analyse data for the purpose of resolving issues directly related to human resource management and to apply conflict resolution activities
  2. To develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills as well as confidence when interacting with others in a number of organizational settings
  3. To communicate, both orally and in writing
  4. To acquire problem–solving skills in relation to employee’s employment
  5. To effectively use resources towards maximum productivity

Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:

  1. To create strategic recruitment/selection policies and practices and to perform an effective job analysis, job description, and a job specification
  2. To develop effective job design processes and procedures and to organize, implement and perform effective selection interviews as well as execute a training needs analysis in order to develop and implement effective training programmes
  3. To evaluate jobs in order to determine salary/wage scales as well as develop and implement effective performance criteria in order to perform appraisals and reward performance
  4. To develop and implement effective disciplinary processes and procedures and to manage employer-employee negotiations so as to avoid conflict situations in the workplace
  5. To analyse health and safety issues in the workplace for better employee performance  as well as evaluate the legal environment and its impact on the workplace
