This module introduces key themes associated with strategic leadership and management in a variety of organizational contexts. It offers the opportunity to explore critically traditional leadership and management approaches and appraise contemporary perspectives designed to organize for high performance in an uncertain environment.
Course/Module Objectives:
The main objectives of the course are:
- To provide knowledge and understanding about both the theory and practice of leading and managing workplace improvement
- To build the capacity to foster and sustain a range of productive professional relationships and partnerships for business improvement
- To improve personal attributes that enable professional influence of others to improve practice
- To build on leadership skills for leading improvement innovation and change in organizations
- To assess and analyse the roles that leaders and managers play in formulating, implementing and evaluating strategy in a range of organizational contexts

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:
- To critically appraise leadership and management concepts and approaches derived from a variety of sources
- To select and justify leadership and management concepts most applicable to own professional role and context
- To apply and synthesise theory to identify ways in which organisational practice could be improved or developed
