The course is designed to prepare prospective managers for playing a leading role in planning and implementing quality is organizations. The course provides an understanding in quality management concepts and techniques for managing, controlling, and improving quality towards a continuous organizational improvement and competitive advantage.
Course/Module Objectives:
The main objectives of the course are:
- To explain the basic concepts in Quality Management (TQM) and to differentiate between product quality characteristics and service quality characteristics
- To list the key steps in the control of quality process as well as distinguish between quality of design and quality of conformance to design
- To explain the process of planning for quality
- To explain the system of documentation, implementation and assessment of quality as well as explain specific tools and techniques for quality improvement
- To explain the role of external and internal customers in setting quality parameters and enhance competitive advantage
Course/Module Learning Outcomes:
After completion of the course students are expected to be able:
- To critically evaluate the modern concepts and theories of quality management and to identify the factors that contribute to the continuous quality improvement process
- To explore the concepts of Quality management and its application to the field
- To appraise the various evaluation frameworks that exist
- To demonstrate the relationships between quality management and human resource management
- To recognize the role and significance of QM with a strategic management context towards competitive advantage
