This module covers the preparation of group financial statements in accordance with International Accounting Standards, including a consideration of the conceptual and legal aspects, Taxation. It also introduces critical appraisal of range of theoretical and/or topical financial reporting issues. Financial reporting involves the disclosure of financial information to management and the public (if the company is publicly traded) about how the company is performing over a specific period of time.

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To provide a more detailed consideration of the technical language and practices of financial accounting with respect to preparing and presenting financial accounting information for groups of companies
  2. To provide detailed considerations of the theoretical and empirical evidences relating to the interaction of accountancy with regulatory systems and the capital markets
  3. To build on the basic techniques used in preparing financial statements
  4. Enable students to appreciate the relevance of the taxation system to decisions made and to provide students with an understanding of the principles of the taxation of businesses, both corporate and unincorporated
  5. To enable learners to understand the regulatory framework for financial reporting
