The course aids the students to develop knowledge and skills in the understanding of the general legal framework, and of specific legal areas relating to business, recognizing the need to seek further specialist legal advice where necessary. Also this course is designed to enable students to gain a detailed understanding and appreciation of many key topics in business Law and to develop their legal skills of analysis and problem-solving.
Course/Module Objectives:
The main objectives of the course are:
- To enable students to identify legal issues and problems arising through the life of a company, to consider and analyse areas of legal complexity and advise appropriately on legal resolution of problems
- To familiarize Students with the Principles of Corporate Law and to enable students to understand the practical application of these principles
- To develop students’ critical and legal thinking skills
- To assist students to understand the role of the company as a form of business enterprise and have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the key aspects of its legal regulation
- To identify the various types of torts
Course/Module Learning Outcomes:
After completion of the course students are expected to be able:
- To critically assess/analyse issues arising in the key areas of company law and identify and apply relevant legal rules to those issues including the different types of partnerships and to compare partnerships with companies and sole traders
- To explain and analyze the importance of contract law and to become aware of the requirements for the formation of a contract, of the remedies for breach of contract and of the main principles of contract law
- To compare between shares and debentures as well as apply the procedure to register and liquidate a company
- To explain the importance of corporate governance and to explain the main employment legislation
- To demonstrate ability to use comprehensive knowledge and understanding to deal with complex issues and problems arising in the key areas of company law, reach appropriate and reasoned conclusions and offer analysis/criticism of legal arguments
