To provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of the financial markets and the functions and operations of various financial institutions. In addition, students will be able to analyze these functions and proceed with monetary policies.

Course/Module Objectives:

The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To offer an understanding of financial markets
  2. To introduce the functions and operations of financial institutions
  3. To analyze the goals and functions of central banks and the conduct of monetary policy
  4. To enable students to trace the process of central banking and the conduct of monetary policy

Course/Module Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the course students are expected to be able:

  1. To provide an overview of financial markets and the importance of money
  2. To explain how interest rates are determined
  3. To perform an assessment of the structure of financial institutions
  4. To define international finance and the relationship to monetary policy
